Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff Factory is a must-visit for Studio Ghibli fans in Setagaya, Tokyo. This cozy bakery and cafe, owned by Hayao Miyazaki's sister-in-law, exudes the whimsical charm of a Miyazaki film. The two-story establishment features rustic decor and original sketches by Miyazaki.
Wow what a hidden magical tiny place. If you love cream puffs and Totoro even more... Then you need to get here. Weekends are popular so things are sold out fast. I was lucky to get the last one of the day. I wanted strawberry 🍓 but got banana 🍌. Didn't matter, it was amazing.Even though the cream puffs are the highlight, the cookies are also very good. They're shortbread, try then!😷 Masks required🧼 Hand sanitizer available🪑Outdoor seating available💳 Cash, Credit🚻 Restroom available🥡 Takeout available

Less than a 5 min walk from Setagaya-Daita Station, the cream puff factory is tucked away in a residential area next to an elementary school. The totoro style cream puffs are very cute but taste is pretty average. The cafe is located upstairs while the downstairs area is reserved for takeout only. The cafe also requires you to purchase a drink and they have a time limit for how long you can stay in the cafe. Worth a trip if you want cute looking cream puffs but don't expect to be blown away by the texture of the cream puff.

I haven’t had the chance to eat in at their cafe. I did buy a selection of their adorable cream puffs to go.The flavors available when I visited were custard cream (green leaf - this is available year round), marron cream (brown leaf), chocolate cream (hat with blue bow), and strawberry and cream cheese (hat with yellow bow)All flavors were delicious. Each cream puff is big and hefty. The price is totally worth it. I would definitely come back when new flavors come out.I arrived at the place about 20 minutes before opening. The queue was already long. When the shop opened, the staff asked to have a line for those eating in to separate to those buying to go. The lines got shorter then. The line going to the take out counter was quick. The two staff members who were there were very energetic and nice. They spoke some English which made my transaction faster.

The puffs are pretty good (though the puff pastry itself could be crisper). What surprised us though is the rest of the menu - The drinks and food aside from the puffs are also very tasty! Prices are reasonable given the setting, and the wait wasn't as bad as we thought it would be.They have quality service as well, and we really appreciated them giving us an hour to finish after we got our puffs so we didn't have to rush. It's a very charming cafe that I highly recommend.

Cute little Totoro pastry shop hidden in the middle of a residential area. They sells cute little Totoro cream puffs🐰There are a pastry at the 1st floor, to take out and cafe at the 2nd floor, to eat in. The cafe is really small, and always overcrowded so you might have to wait.

Tucked away in a quiet residential area, the cafe offers dine-in (in-door table or outside terrace)or take out. It is extremely popular with locals so plan to go early before items sold out. Due to its popularity, dine-in is limited to 1 hour. However, the clock starts ticking the moment you are seated, not when your food arrives. On busy days, your food may not show up until over 20 minutes in, leaving you with less time then expected to finish. Do be mindful of this.

Cute ambience with a line up that starts earlier than open time! If you are taking out, the line seems to move faster but when you are seating in you can expect each customer before you to take an hour. I was limited time wise to 1 hour. Sadly not great for kids that need strollers as they only have stairs. I had the matcha latte and strawberry cream puff which I think both were relatively standard and able to taste the fresh fillings!

This place was so cute!!! These were the best cream puffs I have ever had. We had to traditional custard and chocolate and they were creamy and flavorful. But I adored the seasonal flavor one of which was mango and the other blueberry. I really recommend getting their early and curing cause the seating area is so cozy. I also recommend the peach soda with yogurt it’s very refreshing on a hot day.

Got to the location around 12pm and had a fair wait but was well worth the food. The croque madame and French fries were amazing, the best food I’ve had since visiting Tokyo. The hot chocolate was nice and creamy and the Cream Puff’s were delicious!

A cute Ghibli themed cafe in Tokyo…Just some minutes walk from Shimokitazawa. They have lunch time, so pay attention to the time.Come early noon if you want to have a lunch since the queue is rather long, they only have like several tables I think (forgot the exact number). No need to queue though if you just want to buy take out desserts. And the foods are amazing… Foods and desserts are delicious.Drinks are so-so, but still good to have.Price is reasonable.Recommended to visit 🤗

really cute location tucked away in a scenic neighbourhood. loved the designs & the cream puffs were quite good but unfortunately when purchased on the lower floor, a fee must be paid to eat them on the upper floor. the cafe served pretty good western cuisine, mainly catered to tourists though. overall recommend for ghibli fans!

After helping a client setup home internet, I found this cute totoro cafe in Setagaya Daita called Shiro Hige's Cream Puff Factory. This is why I love my job :)Selling Point:● cutest cream puffs with different flavors, so so so cute that you feel bad taking a bite at them● pasta was also delicious

Unfortunately when I got there the cream puffs were sold out. I decided to get a cookie set and each one was absolutely delicious! The shop interior is really cute and the staff very friendly too.

Line up was for dine in and takeout you could just enter right away. Was a bit confused because the signs advertise the place as "Tolo" which was different from the Google maps name. It was pretty clearly the correct place bc of the line though. We got there around 10:20am and waited about an hour for dine in (just 1-2 workers and it's a small dining area). You fill in a sheet with your name and number of people. Once you get in, they give you a time limit of an hour.Dining area was very peaceful and relaxing if you're willing to wait. The waiters were great, patient and quick. Got the mango and blueberry creampuff and both were delicious and cute! Blueberry flavour was a bit stronger, and mango was a bit subtler.

Cute and tasty cream puffs 😍, the strawberry cream filling is not too sweet and the puff is really good! These puffs are sold out fast so if you have the time, give them a preorder for the next day and the timing you will arrive to collect them. You can take these treats to the cafe upstairs to sit down and enjoy them! They give plates and the drinks are refreshing! Overall this place gives a cozy neighbourhood vibes and must visit if you are exploring this area of Tokyo!

Very cute place and easy to get to. The vibe is relaxing. But I wish they did lunch there though. The custard cream puff is so good - not too sweet, not too bland. I loved the custard flavor. I will definitely go back the next time I visit Japan.

If you are a Ghibli fan, you must visit this place. If you are not, you have to come anyway. The place is cute. The cream puffs are good. When we went to the shop, there were three different flavours of puffs available.Chocolate, blue berry yoghurt and vanilla. All were equally good. Not sure if all same flavours are the available all the time.My kids loved them all. We are already planning to visit this place again if we go to Tokyo again.

We reached at 11am and there was a queue like 10+ pax in front. Please note there are 2 queues, one for take outs and one for cafe. You don’t have to queue that long if you just opt for take out. The cafe ain’t much and the ambience is average.I got my puffs within 10mins of queuing for take out. Just consume the puffs outside the store and can throw your thrash in the bin besides the entrance.

Overall pleasant experience. I went during weekday and didn’t have to wait very long (30minutes). I then ordered some pasta, the Totoro cake and some cappucino. It took a while till I got my pasta, but the waiter always apologized and said “thank you for waiting”. So I was very happy with the service. The size of serving was okay, but I find it too expensive for Japanese standard. Though it was delicious. The cake was very yummy, I chose the chocolate one. Also the coffee was very good in flavor. I’m definitely coming back, but wouldn’t recommend to come during peak hours. U usually wait 1hour at least.

February 2024I was SO EXCITED to try these cream puffs! I knew to get takeout in order to avoid the crowd and arrived before they opened to ensure they had all the flavor offerings.Unfortunately, they didn't have a blueberry cream offered which I really wanted, but we tried a variety of others. They are unbelievably adorable and the shop itself is perfect!I would highly recommend them! The walk from the train station is also really cute!

Second time here. First time in December 2018. Now back in 2024. Pastry taste very dry and not fresh. Custard cream was too thick and not that creamy a before. It looks cute, but was not worth the money this time. Won't go again.

The totoro puffs were very light and cute. For my tourist, travel to cute town is long from the center of Tokyo but it was worth it. I ended up spending the rest of my day walking around the town and trying more food. The older woman behind the counter was so sweet. There is seating if you make a reservation I think otherwise you will have to eat your snacks outside.

This was a highlight of our trip to Tokyo. The cream puffs were adorable and delicious, and the Italian soda also very refreshing. If you want to have a seat inside, you have to go upstairs and add your name to the reservation list, as this place is very popular and fills up quickly. I think we waited about 20 minutes to be seated. If you just want a cream puff for takeaway, you can get it from the shop downstairs. I think in order to be seated you also have to order a drink or something in addition to your cream puff.Very cute and tasty, worth the wait!

In a super cute quiet area of Tokyo, and fairly close to a train station (just be prepared to walk up a little hill). We got there for 14:15 and they were sold out for cream puffs! We didn't think they'd sell out so early as they are open until 18:00. Alas, we had to get a matcha brownie instead, which came with a little cream and was delightfully warm. All drinks are served in paper cups with plastic lids, seems wasteful. The downstairs where you can get takeaway food and drinks is decorated with some Ghibli figures including a large Jiji (the black cat) from Kiki's Delivery Service and a just as large Totoro. You probably couldn't get a wheelchair through here and would certainly become crowded at peak times. The Totoro is teetering next to the charming stairs with wooden baninsters and a green carpet which leads to the café. This, if course, is not particularly accessible as they are quite steep. The cafe has more of a farmhouse vibe with chill, slightly jazzy music, lovely tall ceilings and an old chandelier - I think they could go harder with the Ghibli decor updtairs, maybe hang cute pictures on the walls?

One of the highlights of my Japan trip was visiting Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff Factory! We managed to visit on a quiet, rainy day when there wasn’t a queue and plenty of cream puffs left despite it being the afternoon! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was all very charming. We picked one custard, one berry cream and two chocolate cream puffs to take back to our Airbnb, and we couldn’t believe how tasty they were! I would definitely recommend and hope to come back when we’re in Japan next!

Dont have to queue to buy the cream puffs for takeaway. I tried 4 flavours chocolate, mango, blueberry and original. Chocolate & mango were the best. The outside puff is slightly chewy, lots of cream inside. The cafe is filled with little Ghibli decorations. All in all a fun snack for Ghibli fans but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat them again.

A very fun and magical place! When we got there, there was a queue. It was a bit confusing with how to line up, but thankfully a fellow visitor provided more clarity! When you get there, head to the second floor when you are able to sign up for a spot. We waited about 40 min after that. I thought it was special and fun! So worth that wait. Loved the cream puffs! The taste of the custard was absolutely delicious. My fave was the raspberry and cream cheese. The matcha was also delicious.

This shop is really overflowing with Totoro cuteness!! Tried the original custard and seasonal chestnut versions and both are great. If you are a fan of Totoro you must visit!!Be sure to go early especially if you want to dine in as a long queue would already form before the shop opens. Also if you dine in, you are expected to order a drink per person!

Come early as this place opens at around 10:30. No reservations for seats can be made and cream puffs (¥650+ each) run out easily once it hits noon. They have 4 cream puff flavours to choose from.Avoid groups with more than 4 pax.We queued for about 50 mins after reaching at 1100 and only the custard/strawbeerry flavoured cream puffs remained. The pasta and toast was surprisingly good though.Cafe has a nice vibe, just sad food is so competitive here :pPasta + Drink + Cream Puff = ~¥2500

It is a quaint little cafe near Setagaya Daita station. If you're a Ghibli fan, you should come here and pay a visit. There's a cafe on the 2nd floor which you have to wait. But if you are only buying the cream puffs for to go, it is quite quick. Went there early morning on weekends so there are not many people so I dont have to queue. The cream puffs are famous for its Totoro shaped. They are so cute and delicious too. I bought the chocolate cream and seasonal flavor which is the strawberry cream. The puff are so cute seriously. And not to mentioned the shop was opened by Hayao Miyazaki sensei's niece, and I believe the nice lady who entertained me at the shop was her. She is so nice 💖 I love her, the customer service is good too 👍🏻 After you buy the puffs you can take a stroll around the area, the area is very calming and quiet, there's also a park nearby where you can sit and eat the puffs while enjoying the scenery. I also bought a souvenir boxed cookie set from the shop 😊

The place itself is good, the cream puff are well shaped. However their taste is just average. Nothing exceptional. Staff is well trained. Matcha brownie was really good and not too sweet. Experience it once is ok.

Shiro Hige's is a small cafe serving cat-shaped cream puffs with flavors like chocolate, banana, and strawberry. I tried the chocolate one—creamy chocolate filling mixed with whipped cream. The pastry was delicious, but not something I'd buy again. The limited seating inside is a drawback. I wouldn't make the 20-minute trek from the Cat Temple just for the pastry, but if you're in the area, it's worth a try.

Located in a quiet, quaint area, this café was a lovely place to visit! We took a seat in their upstairs sitting area, and were able to order the adorable totoro cream puffs along with some drinks. Although cute, they tasted great as well! The strawberry filling was light and tasted fresh, like a not so sweet strawberry ice cream. Service was great as well, as the drinks and cream puffs did not take long to arrive after placing our order, and the employees were very pleasant.

Very cute cream puffs, worth coming! Note that there are 2 queues, one for dining in, one for takeaways. There will be a longer queue if dining in because the 2nd floor has very limited seatings (I think possibly for less than 16 pax?) and they will give you about 1hr 15min to eat? You order via qr code and pay using credit card. Waiting time for food is not very long. For the Totoro puffs there are 4 flavours - strawberry, matcha, chocolate and original.

We came here for the famous totoro cream puffs like every other tourists. We arrived about 15 minutes before the opening time and started queuing up, got seated during the first round at the second floor. We ordered all the cream puffs available for that day, with drinks as well. Ordering is via a QR code, so language barrier is not a problem at all. The cafe has natural sunlight and really natural style furniture, making the place great for photos. The cream puffs are super super cute, it's too cruel to eat them, even though we eventually did, after taking hundreds of photos. The fresh cream inside is light and the flavors are subtle and not sweet, so it's very enjoyable to eat them. Sharing is the key to try all the flavors and we all thought that the strawberry and original flavor were the most enjoyable. There is a limited time for each seating of 1 hour, but we did finish our cream puff rather quickly since it was so good, so we left after to give way to the customers who are queuing outside. The queue was so so so much longer when we were leaving, so it is really a good idea to arrive before the cafe opens.

I came early but it was not early enough as there was a long queue outside to sit in. Limited cream puff flavours (4 if I remember well) but it was delicious. I took them away and ate in a nearby park. They also sell Totoro biscuits in a very cute box. I must say I truly enjoyed every single one of them until the last bite. Highly recommended quality products.

Very cute place famous for their Puffs, which are delicious and not only cute. But to my surprise, I tried their curry bread and it’s mind blowing. It was definitely a pleasant surprise and I would go back to get more of those for sure.

The cream puffs are soo delicious. Wasn’t expecting too much as I didn’t want to be disappointed, but these really are worth the trip. The place is really small and there’s always a queue so ended up queuing for the take away line instead which moved relatively quickly. I got two cream puffs, custard cream (¥600) and banana (¥640).

Enjoyed the cream puffs. They had four flavors when I went and were either 600 or 640 yen each depending on flavor. I got one of each flavor and loved all of them.

The best cream puff you’ll ever eat. Came because of Totoro and fell in love with the flavor too! It’s not too sweet and I loved that. I keep wishing I would have picked up more when we were in town. We went at 2pm on a Friday and there was no line at all and plenty left in every flavor (4 flavors I think). We ordered on the bottom floor and ate them outside the shop. Totally worth the trek imo! We walked around the town afterwards and it was one of the highlights to our Japan trip.

I have been frequenting this shop ever since 2011 when they were located in Takaido. At the time, they only had 3 flavours and only sold Totoro choux creams. They relocated to Setagaya Daita and have a cafe where you can sit and even opened a second location in Kichijoji. They also expanded on the flavours as well as having a variety of limited time special deserts. Will definitely continue to go there from here on out and looking forward with more desserts from them!

Adorable cream puffs - lovely strawberry flavour! We arrived just before 5pm to have the last two cream puffs of the day ~ it’s a very popular location and we were so happy & lucky to try these whilst in Japan.Situated in a quiet and quaint town - it’s the perfect location to stop off and have an adorable and tasty snack ☺️
